Fear

2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Ever find yourself afraid?  Off and on throughout my life I’ve had fear of many things.  Sometimes fear comes upon you in an instant like when you look down and see a snake right at your feet, or when a car barely misses hitting you on the highway.  These things I believe are common in everyday life…the other kind of fear isn’t and should be dealt with.
Other kinds of fear, the unhealthy kind, comes from dwelling on things that “might” happen.  Things like your house might burn down while you’re gone, a wild dog might come in your yard and attack your family, your car might blow up and you might have to buy another one.  These fears, if you dwell on them can turn into phobias and obsessive compulsive disorders…maybe these fears stem from something in one’s childhood or maybe it’s behavior learned from your parents.  These need to be dealt with and overcome, or else they can ruin quality of life, cost time and money.
I’ve personally have had these kinds of fears.  I’ve overcome most of them but others are still a struggle…but as God’s word says in 2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
For many years I had no idea there was a “spirit of fear”, first time I ever heard of this I was blown away, I had never heard of such a thing.  And with this revelation from God’s word I was also greatly encouraged!!!  Why?  Because with God we can be over comers, we can be healthy in mind, body and spirit. Our minds are renewed with His word.  As we study and meditate we are re-assured, strengthened realize that God gives us what we need for this day, for this moment.   He cares for us and when we finally realize what we mean to Him…those spirits of fear are driven away.  God means to do us good and not harm. See what He says in Matthew 7:7 – 11 ….
7“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.9“Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
I want to encourage you today if you are struggling with fear.  Meditate on God’s word, His promises, and let your mind be renewed with His love for you.

I was completely agoraphobic for almost ten years. I couldn’t drive, leave my house, take a long walk, nothing, I was prisoner of my fears. I was afraid of everything under the sun and nothing at all. I had horrible panic attacks that incapacitated me for days. Due to an abusive marriage, I also had PTSD which didn’t help at all. Until I found God. I had gotten involved in Wicca and for some reason it made my anxiety skyrocket. I broke down one night and for the first time in ten years, I talked to God, I begged for forgiveness and cried until I had no more tears, for hours it seemed. It suddenly felt like I was enfolded in loving arms and I knew it would all be okay, that everything was fine. My anxiety vanished and I really believe I was healed. It’s been almost nine months now, and I have truly been reborn. I can get out of the house now and have been driving. It truly is a miracle how God can wipe away your most horrible terrors if you but only ask.
