After reading the pruning guide, my mind began to wander, lazily looping through the pruning scenario, turning it over and over in my mind. Imagine a gardener with a big wide hat standing in the warm sun, lovingly gazing at the thorny rosebush…loving the plant but at the same time seeing potential in removing the dead branches. Knowing that if all the dead things are removed the bush might be bare at first but later it will bloom the most brilliant beautiful roses.
Much the same way God gazes at us, so totally in love with us that he is willing to cut back all the dead things that ruin our beauty and potential brilliance.
Pruning may hurt for a while and it’s mighty uncomfortable, but when the blooming happens and the fresh leaves and flowers burst forth, the happiness and joy we feel far outweighs the pain and discomfort.
Thank you God for loving us and being the strong Father we need in every facet of our lives. Thank you for doing what’s best for us even though we might not think so at the time. You are wise, mighty and powerful in all your ways.
I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.
John 15:1-2 (NLT)
